SHADLEY, Harry Herbert

Harry Herbert Shadley was born on December 22nd 1915 to John W. & Ada Effie [James] Shadley in Lima Ohio. The family emigrated to Northeastern Minnesota.

Mr. Shadley enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 10th 1941. Home at entry: Duluth, Minneosta.

He served as an auto mechanic with Battery C of the 125th Field Artillery of the 34th Infantry Division in Tunisia, North Africa; Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Po Valley, and North Apennines, Italy. He rose to the rank of Sergeant. (SGT).

SGT Shadley earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars,
  • American Defense Service Medal,
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • six overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged June 26th 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. After the war he returned home and married Mary Florence Sterle on October 5th 1945 and they started a family.

Mr. Shadley died on February 26 1994 at 78 years of age. He is buried at Preston Cemetery in Algar, Ohio.
