KNIFFIN, Gordon Louis
Gordon Louis Kniffin was born on January 25th 1909 to Joseph William & Irene Sarah [Latterel] Kniffin of Foreston, Minnesota.
Before the war Mr. Kniffin married married Alice [Luoma] on February 18th 1932. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on July 23rd 1942 during WWII. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He was a mess sergeant with Battery D, 461st Anti Aircraft Artillery, Automatic Weapons Battalion at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT).
SGT Kniffin earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on August 7th 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home to his wife.and they started a family.
Mr Kniffin died on May 14th 1971 at 62 years of age in Hibbing. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
