George Zakula entered the Merchant Marine on March 8, 1943.
He participated in convoy duty aboard the E.F. Bedford, S.O. Springfield, and ESSO Aruba in the European Theater, Atlantic Ocean, Central, and South America.
He returned to Baltimore, Maryland, and was granted leave for home. While riding a train on his way home to Duluth, he was killed on December 18, 1945.
