George Rukavina entered the Naval Reserve active duty on July 7, 1942.
He was a Commissioned Lieutenant and served aboard the yard mine sweeper USS YMS 228. He served as the commanding officer of the USS Staff (AM 114) in the Pacific and Atlantic.
Mr. Rukavina was awarded the following: American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was honorably discharged on April 21, 1946, at Great Lakes, Illinois.
