George Rudolf Abrahamson
Mr. Abrahamson served in World War II aboard the aircraft carrier S.S. Saginaw Bay. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was born on July 4, 1925, in West Duluth, Minnesota. He was the son of Victor and Ida Abrahamson. George’s mother, Ida, died when he was an infant; he was raised by Erland and Selma Verkaus in Floodwood, Minnesota.
He died on January 18, 2009, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, at the age of 83.
He was decorated with following: American Pacific Theater of War ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater of War ribbon, Silver Star for service in Palau, Lette, Lingayen Gulf, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa campaigns, Philippine Liberation ribbon with one star for enemy air attack.
