MORTINSEN, George Robert

George Robert Mortinsen was born on November 28th 1921 to Severin Simon. & Emma [Tiller] Mortinsen in Duluth, Minnesota.

Mr. Mortinsen entered the U.S. Navy August 12th 1942. Home at entry: Proctor, Minnesota.

He served as an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class (EM2c) aboard the USS Miantonomah (CM-10) and in the European Theater.

EM2c Mortinsen was one of the three survivors after the ship USS Miantonomah blew up off the French Coast. The USS Miantonomah sank about 20 minutes after the explosion with a loss of some 58 officers and men at position.

Mr. Mortinsen was awarded the following: Purple Heart and Combat Action Ribbon

He was honorably separated from the service on March 25th 1945. After the war he returned home and married Evelyn Ella Mae Mortinsen and they started a family.

Mr. Mortinsen died on March 13th 1994 at the age of 72 years. He is buried at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth.
