McKENZIE, George Henry
George Henry McKenzie was born on November 17th 1923 to George Roderick & Beatrice Emma [Trixie] McKenzie in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Central High School.
Mr. McKemzie joined the U.S. Army Air Corps Reserve while a sophomore in college in November 1942 and was called to active duty in January 1943.
He completed flight training, received his wings, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (2LT). He was assigned briefly as an instructor at the same twin engine advanced flying school.
After a month, LT McKenzie was transferred to Lockbourne Army Air Base for B-17 transition pilot training and on completion was assigned to take B-17 pilot instructor training, remaining there as an instructor until July 1945, when he was transferred to Maxwell Field for B-29 pilot training.
He qualified as a B-29 pilot shortly before VJ Day and because of this was required to remain in the Air Corps until April 1946. He achieved the rank of Captain. (CAP).
After the war he returned home and married Miss Frances [Haltiwanger].
Mr. McKenzie died on in August 26th 2014 at 90 years of age in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
