George F. Starkey

George F. Starkey was inducted into the Army Air Corps on January 9, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.

He served as a Sergeant with Army public relations and as a staff of the Stars and Stripes in Paris. He also attended the advanced infantry (Ranger) training at Rennes, France. He was assigned to front line duty with the Eighth Infantry Regiment of the Fourth Infantry Division in the Rhineland campaign.

Mr. Starkey shared the following: "In the infantry just long enough to earn the Ernie Pyle medal (Combat Infantryman Badge - $20 a month). After armistice we policed the Augsburg area before departing from Europe. Was sent to Camp Butner, North Carolina, en route to Japan, but Japan never occurred.

Was separated at Camp McCoy on November 10, 1945, and have been living very happily with wife of 50 years ever since."
