GUSTAFSON, George Eliel
George Eliel Gustafson was born on May 7th 1916 to Gustaf.Eliel & Edith Sophia [Nylund] Gustafson in Duluth, Minnesota.
Mr. Gustafson entered the U.S. Army on February 15th 1942, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota during WWII.
He entered service as a Technician 3rd Class (TEC3). Upon completion of officer candidate school, he rose to a 1st Lieutenant (1LT), He was with Company I, Mess Officer, Medical Registrar, and Commanding Officer of Casper Army Base Hospital in Casper, Wyoming.
LT Gustafson earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- American Campaign Medal, -and-
- World War II Victory Medal.
He was honorably relieved from active duty on January 8th 1946, at Chanute Field, Illinois. After the war he returned home and married Doris Caroline [Peterson} and they started a family.
Mr. Gustafson died on August 28th 2006 at 90 years of age. He is buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
