Fred J. Kokkonen

Fred J. Kokkonen of Virginia, Minnesota, was inducted into the Army on November 19, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn. 

He was a Private First Class and gun crewman with Company D, 334th Engineer Service and Supply Regiment in the Rhineland of Central Europe. He was wounded in action on November 16, 1944.

Mr. Kokkonen was awarded the: Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal and two overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
