ROYER, Fred Earnest
Fred Earnest Royer was born March 7th 1925, the son of Dennis Herbert & Mary J. [Hutton] Royer. He was born in Bowling Green, Indiana and the family moved to Proctor, Minnesota when Fred was a young boy. He graduated from Proctor High School.
Mr. Royer served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was inducted on July 11, 1943.
He was assigned to the 3038th Quartermaster Bakery Company (a mobile bakery unit) in northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Technician 4th Grade (TEC4).
TEC4 Royer earned the follwing decorations for his service:
- European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 3 bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- 4 overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on January 12th 1946. After the war Fred returned home, met and married Viola Mae [Sallberg] July 15th 1947 and they started a family.
Mr. Royer died at age 83 on May 22th 2008, in Duluth, Minnesota. He is buried at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth.
