DUPREE, Frank William

Frank William Dupree was born on February 10th 1918 to Frank N. & Sophie Wein [Goggleye] Dupree in Nett Lake, Minnesota.

Mr. Dupree was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 20th 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota during WWII.

He served in the 359th Infantry Regiment. He participated in the D-Day landings at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge in Central Europe.

He was wounded in action in France in September 1944 and in Germany on April 1st 1945. He was also a prisoner of war. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

PFC Dupree earned the following merits for his service:

  • Purple Heart, 
  • Bronze Star, 
  • Combat Infantryman Badge, 
  • Good Conduct Medal, 
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 3 bronze battle stars and bronze arrowhead,
  • American Campaign Medal,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He received a disability discharge on May 3rd 1946 at Station Hospital, Camp Carson, Colorado. After the war he returned home and married Evelyn Georgiana [Porter] and they started a family.

Mr. Dupree died on December 15th 1997 at 79 years of age. He is buried at the Nett Lake Cemetery in Nett Lake, Minnesota.
