PETRANGELO, Frank Samuel
Frank Samuel Petrangelo was born on March 26th 1924 to John & Lucy [Giacotto] in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Mr. Petrangelo was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 7th 1943, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota during WWII.
He served as a rifleman with Company E with the 161st Infantry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division in New Guinea, Bataan, and Luzon, Philippines. He was wounded in action. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Petrangelo earned the following merits for his service:
- Bronze Star Medal,
- Purple Heart,
- Presidential Unit Citation,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Combat Infantryman Badge,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal,
- three overseas service bars, -and-
- Philippines Liberation Medal with 1 bronze star.
He was honorably discharged on January 13th 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war, he returned home and married Viola Elaine [Maki] in 1948 and they started a family.
He died on April 5th 1991 at 67 years of age in Hibbing. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
