Frank R. Kunstal of Gilbert, Minnesota was inducted into the Army Air Corps on April 30, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
He was a Master Sergeant and an airplane maintenance technician with the 233rd Army Air Forces Base Unit.
He participated in the campaigns of Egypt-Libya, the Air Offensive of Europe; Algeria-French Morocco and Tunisia; Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Northern Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy; Normandy, Northern France, Ploesti, Southern France, Rhineland, and in air combat of the Balkans.
Mr. Kunstal received the: Good Conduct Medal, Unit Citation with two oak leaf clusters, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with three silver battle stars (for fifteen campaigns with each silver star representing five campaigns), World War II Victory Medal, and four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on September 20, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
