TARNOWSKI, Frank Alexander
Frank Alexander Tarnowski was born on December 12th 1922 to Alexander & Wanda [Lucas] Tarnowski in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Duluth Central High School.
Mr. Tarnowski served in World War II in the U.S. Army beginning in June of 1942. He was assigned to the 103rd Infantry Division in the European Theater. He rose to the rank of Sergeant.
SGT Tarnowski was honorably discharged from the Army in March of 1946. He was decorated with:
- Combat Infantry Badge,
- Good Conduct Medal, -and-
- a Purple Heart.
After the war Mr. Tarnowski returned home and married Gertrude [Robillard] died on November 15th 2020 at the age of 97 years old.

Veteran’s family member account follows: “My father is a 90 year old World War II veteran who has only recently begun discussing his experiences in Europe. He encountered hand-to-hand combat, received a Purple Heart and now states; ‘We did what we needed to do, came home and moved on with our lives’.”
