Francis V. Colangelo of Virginia, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on Apr. 23, 1943.
He served at the rank of corporal as a heavy machine gunner with Battery A, 11th Field Artillery Battalion in New Guinea and in the Hollandia invasion. He also participated in the D-day landing on Leyte Island, Philippines on Oct. 20, 1944 and in the liberation of Luzon in the southern Philippines.
His awards include the:
Bronze Service Arrowhead,
Good Conduct Medal,
Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal,
Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze battle stars,
and four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on Feb. 11, 1946.
