Valentini, Fiorello

Fiorello "Frello" Valentini was born September 9th 1916

Mr. Valentini entered the Naval Reserve on August 22, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.

Mr. Valentini served as a Gunner's Mate Third Class aboard the battleship USS Iowa (BB 61) in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Valentini shared the following: "Our ship was honored with taking President Roosevelt and staff for the conference in Teheran with Churchill and Stalin.

"We operated with both the Third Fleet (Admiral William F. Halsey) and the Fifth Fleet (Admiral Raymond Spruance). We were in every Pacific Area campaign from January 29, 1944, to the end of World War II. The Iowa earned nine battle stars (on the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal) for WWII."

He was honorably discharged on October 1st 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. "Frello" passed away October 21st 2002 at the age of 86. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm, Minnesota.
