Eugene R. Lindholm served in World War II as a part of the Panama Canal Defense System.
He served in the U.S. Navy from July 18, 1943, until August 17, 1946. He attended boot camp at Farragut, Idaho. He was trained at radio school in Memphis, Tennessee, and at operational school in Banana River and Key West, both in Florida.
He was then assigned to an anti-submarine patrol squadron stationed at Colón, Panama.
Mr. Lindholm was sent to Hutchinson Naval Air Station, Kansas, to train for the anticipated invasion of Japan. He was still in Kansas when the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan.
His rank was Aviation Radioman 3rd Class.
Mr. Lindholm was born in 1925 to Enoch and Mary Lindholm in Burnett County, Wisconsin.
