Ernest A. Lamppa of Embarrass, MN was inducted into the Army on June 6, 1943 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
He was a staff sergeant and a finance clerk with the 97th Finance Disbursing Unit in the continental United States and European Theater.
Ernest states: "First assignment was in Thatcham, England, to pay troops. Shipped out to France in July and opened our finance office in Rennes. Moved on to Brest, France, November, 1944. Only combat engineers there to pay for two months and then to Compiegne, France to pay troops at replacement center who were going into battle. Left Europe in late August to return to States."
Mr. Lamppa received the: Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, World War II Victory Medal and two overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
