NUSICH, Elston Robert
Elston Robert Nusich was born on June 2nd 1911 to Jerry &Frances [Russ] Nusich in Tooele, Utah. The family moved to northeastern Minnesota.
Mr. Nusich entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on April 24th 1942; home at entry: of Chisholm, Minnesota He married Ann Mary [Zgonc] in 1942.
He was a construction machine operator and repairman; specifically in Canada on airbase construction and in the China-Burma-India Theater on Burma Road construction. He rose to the rank of Technician 4th Grade (TEC4).
His wife said: "During this time, the soldiers of Company B faced not only Japanese snipers but also the elements: extreme heat, humidity, insects, monsoons and diseases such as malaria."
He was honorably discharged on September 27th 1945. After the war he returned home to his wife and thay started a family.
Mr. Nusich died on July 30th 1980 at 69 years of age. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
