Elmer F. Welander was inducted into the Army Air Corps on September 19, 1941.

He served as a Private with the Second Weather Squadron of the Ninth Air Base Squadron of the 10th Air Base Group.

He was commissioned Second Lieutenant on September 5, 1943, and later promoted to First Lieutenant and served as a meteorologist in the European Theater.

Mr. Welander was honorably discharged on October 2, 1945.
