Ellsworth "Al" Valentine Ferminich served in World War II in the Merchant Marine (an auxiliary of the U.S. Navy during the war).

He was born on August 14, 1923, in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Valentine and Hazel Fermenich.

He grew up in Saginaw, Minnesota, and graduated from Proctor High School.

Mr. Fermenich died at age 85 on September 25, 2008, in Duluth, Minnesota.
