Ellen S. Huttel served in the Land Army in Scotland, 1940 to 1942.

"The Land Army was a volunteer service I joined when I was 15 years old....Worked on a farm doing any and every chore from 4:30 a.m. until all hours of the evening....in summer we had to do a lot of field work, milked 40 cows and shoveled manure onto wheel barrows which had to be wheeled and dumped and later put on fields. We got very little pay. Big city girl working on a farm."
