Edward T. Schwab was assigned to the 720th Bomb Squadron,450th Bomb Group, U.S Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was an aerial nose gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator operating out of Italy.
On 24 June 1944 while taking part in a high altitude bombing mission over Ploesti Romania, Ed's ship was severely damaged by enemy fighters and went down in the general vicinity of the target area.
He was captured by the Germans and spent approximately 6 months in a POW camp until liberated by the Russian army.
Ed is a facinating person and good friend of mine and resides in N. Ohio at this time. He is certainly one of the "Greatest Generation".
