Edward R. Sarell was inducted into the Army on October 20, 1943. Home at entry: Embarrass, Minnesota.
He served as a Private First Class and paratrooper with Company F Regiment 513, and the 17th Airborne Division in the European Theater. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes) on December 26 through to France in February.
Mr. Sarell recalls; "Jumped into Germany March 24, 1945 and on lines 'til end. To Marseilles, boarded troop ship with our destination being the Japan invasion. Second A-bomb dropped while we were two days out of Gibraltar so we came straight for Newport News, Virg."
He was honorably discharged from the service on January 30, 1946.
