OMAN, Edward John
Edward John Oman was born on November 2nd 1917 to Iver John & Francis S [Hedenquist] Oman in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Mr. Oman enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 17th 1939, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
He served as a machine gunner with Company H of the 242nd Infantry Regiment in Rhineland and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of a Technical Sergeant (TSGT)
SGT Oman earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Combat Infantryman Badge,
- American Defense Service Medal with bronze star,
- American Campaign Medal European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars, -and-
- World War II Victory Medal and 5 overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on August 12th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Margaret Marie [Shultz] and they started a family.
Mr. Oman died on March 19th 1985 at 67 years of age in Hibbing, Minnesota. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
