Dr. Edward Gilbert
Mr. Gilbert was born on April 22, 1922 in Duluth.
He was born to Francis and Sophia (Swan) Gilbert.
He attended school at Lester Park School, Monroe Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1940. He also attended Duluth Junior College.
Mr. Gilbert enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1942. Ed was trained in the medical corps at Santa Ana Army Air Base and served as an instructor in the medical corps in Carlsbad, N.M. Then he was transferred to Las Vegas, Nevada, and trained as a B-17 gunner where he was the ranking enlisted man in his crew and flight leader. He served out the rest of the war as the instructor.
After his Honorable Discharge in 1945, Ed enrolled in Illinois College of Optometry where he graduated in 1949.
Mr. Gilbert died on July 23, 2007 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Fall, Minn.
