Donald J. Mills was enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on July 7, 1942.

He was a Private First Class with the 3rd Signal Company in the 3rd Marine Division placing field phone wire between units in the Pacific. He participated in the Bougainville, British Solomons Campaign and was wounded in action there on November 7, 1943.

He was in the assault landing on Guam, Marianna Islands from July 21 to August 11, 1944. He arrived in Iwo Jima in March,1945. He was able to go home for the first time in August,1945. He married his high school girl friend while on leave.

"Had to be back in 30 days to land on Japan but, thank God, the war ended and we went to Washington, D. C., Marine Headquarters at 8th and Eye Streets."

He was discharged on October 2, 1945.
