Donald F. Kohlts entered the Army on May 28, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.
He served as a Technician 5th Grade and radar operator with the 414th and 602nd Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalions in ground combat in Ardennes and Rhineland.
Attended basic training at Camp Wallace in Galveston, Texas. He was taught how to look down the barrel of a 90mm, pull the lanyard, and hit a tank. Upon arrival overseas became a radar operator and the battalion would follow the Air Force setting up camps in White Cliffs of Dover, England, Omaha Beach, France. Convoyed thru Belgium at the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes Rhineland, Germany.
Mr. Kohlts was awarded the: Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and three overseas service bars.
Mr. Kohlts was honorably discharged on January 30, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
