Donald J. Currier is a Navy veteran of World War II nd the Korean Conflict. He entered the Navy on March, 1942. After completing Basic Training, boot camp, in San Diego, he was transferred to Bremerton, Washington. He served as a chief storekeeper with the commissioning crew for the escort aircraft carrier USS Core (CVE 13) which, on Dec. 10, 1942.

His eventual assignment was to join four other CVE's in the Atlantic. He was assigned to convoy and anti-submarine duty with the Atlantic Fleet. It was his responsibility and that of his crew to seek out and destroy an and all subs of Germany with out Squadrons made up of Fighters and Torpedo Bombers. He served on this duty for 26 months before being transferred to an outlying air base at Quonset Point, Rhode Island and finally to Lewingston-Auborn Maine.

He saw duty in foreign ports to include Balboa, Colon, Panama Canal Zone, Casablanca, Liverpool, Glasgow, Argentina, Newfoundland, Bermuda, and the British West Indies. The ship was credited with 13 submarine "kills" and also the rescue of crewmen, including captain of two of the kills. As a member of inactive reserve, he was called to active duty during the Korean conflict. His duty was all in the States and lasted for about one year. He served at Great Lakes Naval Station, and Norfolk Naval Station. He began shore duty in January, 1945 in the continental U.S. and was honorably discharged in September, 1945.
