OSTROOT, Dean Gale
Dean Gale Ostroot was born on January 29th 1915 to Owen C. & [Bjorkman Ostroot in Windom, Minnesota. The family moved to Duluth and Dean attended Duluth Central High School.
Mr. Ostroot entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on May 21st 1943.
He was a pilot of B-29 bombers. He arrived on Saipan on June 3rd 1945, with the 73rd Bomber Wing, 498th Bomber Group. He rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant (1LT).
LT Osroot stated that, "I flew 14 combat missions in B-29s against Japan, including the last bombing of Osaka."
He was honorably separated on January 6th 1946. After the war he returned home and married Mary Louise [Ouse] and they started a family.
Mr. Ostroot died on May 26th 2002 at 77 years of age. He is buried at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown, Minnesota.
