MARTINELLI, Daniel Francis

Daniel Francis Martinelli was born on October 26th 1906 to Pacifico & Louise [Bianchi] Martinelli in Hibbing, Minnesota.

Mr. Martinelli was inducted in the U.S. Army on June 11th 1942.

He was a locomotive engineer with the 723rd Railway Operating Battalion in northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

PFC Martinelli earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 4 bronze battle stars,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on October 30th 1945. After the war he returned home and married  Mary Agnes [Hugener] in 1948 and they started a family.

Mr. Matinelli died on July 9th 1989 at 82 years of age in Hibbing. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemtery in Hibbing.
