Clinton Shermer entered the Navy on January 24, 1942.

He served as a Radarman Third Class aboard the battleship USS Indiana (BB 58) in the Pacific Theater.

He recalls, "Started at New Caledonia and went to Tokyo. Acted as a hotel ship in Tokyo for the prisoners coming out."

He was discharged on October 18, 1945.
