HEDBERG, Clarence Woodrow

Clarence Woodrow Hedberg was born on January 20th 1912 to Jacob Amandus & Clara [Sjostrom] Hedberg in Duluth, Minnesota.

Mr. Hedberg was inducted into the U.S. Army on December 10th 1942. He reported a week later on December 17th at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He served as a radio operator and tank gunner in the 9th Reconnaissance Troop of the 9th Infantry Division in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Hedberg earned the following merits for his service:

  • Bronze Star Medal (at Remagen bridgehead),
  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars,
  • American Campaign Medal,
  • World War II Victory Medal ; -and-
  • two overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on January 4th 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Margery Hansen on July 9th 1963.

Mr. Hedberg died on January 16th 1997 in Duluth at 84 years of age.
