KANGAS, Clarence August
Clarence August Kangas was born on April 18th 1919 to August "Gust" Laukka & Amanda Justina [Hietala] Kangas in Cherry, Minnesota.
Mr. Kangas enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 1st 1940 during World War II. He was part of General MacArthur’s landing on the island of Leyte, in the Philippines, in 1944. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
During his service PFC Kangas was admitted to Army hospital in October of 1944. He was decorated with the Purple Heart.
PFC Kangas was honorably discharged on February 9th 1946. After the war returned home and lived in Ely, Minnesota, and Duluth, Minnesota. He married Violet May "Jean" [Lee]
Mr. Kangas died at age 89 died on July 10th 2008, in Reno, Nevada. He is buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
