HALVORSON, Chester "Chet" Edward
Chester Edward Halvorson was born on Februay 3rd 1923 to Alfred Marinius & Johanna [Sjödin] Halvorson in Duluth, Minnesota.
Mr. Halvorson was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 20th 1943 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
He served as a medical technician in a Medical Detachment during WWII. He was assigned Company B of the 13th Engineer Battalion, 7th Infantry Division in the Eastern Mandates, Southern Philippines, and Ryukyu Islands. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT).
SGT Halvorson earned the following for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal,
- Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged December 23rd 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Dorothy Louise [Sorenson] on April 6th 1946 and they started a family.
Mr. Halvoson died on August 17th 2008 at 85 years of age. He is buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
