He served as a Private First Class and radio operator with the Fifth Photo Reconnaissance Squadron in Tunisia, North Africa; and Sicily, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy.
Mr. Rynes was awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze battle stars World War II Victory Medal five overseas service bars
He was honorably discharged on October 20, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
