Charles Moose

The Chippewa Chief Charles Moose. When the United States commissioned an artist to paint an individual from each branch of the armed services during World War II, the U.S. Army selected an Ojibwe Indian as its representative.

This portrait of bomber pilot Charles Moose, of Mille Lacs, was painted in Pomigliano, Italy, and now hangs in the Pentagon. His plane was named "Chippewa Chief".
