Carl W. Gustafson was inducted into service on October 11, 1943.

He was trained at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas and was later sent to a camp in Maryland. He was sent overseas that August and served as a Private.

Mr. Gustafson was killed in action in France on September 4th.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivar C. Gustafson, were awarded the Order of the Purple Heart from the war department posthumously in their son's honor.
