YOUNG, Carl Nickander

Carl Nickander Young was born on April 17th 1915 to Nels & Sophie K. Young.

Mr. Young entered the U.S. Naval Reserve on June 17th 1942. Home at entry: Canyon, Minnesota.

He served as a Chief Motor Machinist's Mate and diesel engineer aboard the USS LST 315 in North Africa (Tunisia). He participated in the invasion of Sicily and the landing at Salerno, Italy. He was on the first wave of the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy, in 1944.

Mr. Young was honorably discharged on December 3rd 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After the war he returned home and married Ruby Sarah [Swenson] and they started a family.

Mr. Young died on October 19th 1995 at the age of 80 years. He is buried at Northland Cemetery in Canyon.
