Blanche Marguerite [Erickson] Peterson was born Blanche Marguerite Shoquist on June 25th 1920 in Hibbing, Minnesota She was the daughter of Oscar Leonard & Mabel Caroline [Dispen] Shoquist of Virginia. She married Army PVT Bernard G. Erickson on December 26th 1941
Ms. Erickson entered the service at Duluth, Minnesota on December 23rd 1943. She trained at Fort Des Moines with the Women's Army Corps (WAC) Division of the Army Air Corps. She rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Erickson was transferred to Brooklyn Field, Birmingham Army Air Field and Wright-Patterson Field.
She was awarded the following for her service:
- American Campaign Medal, -and-
- World War II Victory Medal.
PFC Erickson was discharged at Fort Des Moines on December 22nd 1945. After the war she returned home but her husband Bernard never made it back as he was KIA in a POW camp in Europe.
Ms. Erickson later married SGT Alfred N. Peterson who was also a WWII Army Vet in 1946.
Ms. Peterson died on May 18th 2005 at the age of 84 years. She is buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
