TANGEN, Bjarne C.
Bjarne C. Tangen of St. Louis Co., Minnesota, was born on May 30th 1915 in Fort William, Ontario, Canada.
Mr. Tangen enlisted in the Army Air Corps (AAC) on July 12th 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio. He was noted at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office machine operator and also as Single, without dependents. However he married Sally Jo Malloy on August 1943 after his enlistment.
He rose to the rank of Captain and assignd to the 585 Bomber Squadron of the 394th Bomber Group based in Homsley South, Hampshire, England.
On Captain Tangen's last flight, his crew assignment on the B-26 was that of 'Bombardier.' as reported on the Missing Air Crew Report. Their intended target was Nogent Sur Siene, France but they were shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire over Lisieux, France.
Captain Tangen received the Purple Heart, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
He was listd as dead on August 7th 1944 as the B-26 crash was witnessed by other aircraft in the Squadron. The crew remains were reinterred and buried together at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
