Bernard Holland

Bernard Holland was a member of a Medical Detachment Unit during World War II.

From the age of 18 to 20 years old, he served in the Philippines. This was during the years 1944 through 1946. There was not much fighting at the time because the war was pretty much over. Soldiers were getting ready to invade Japan.

The hardest part of the job for Holland was seeing people get killed - there was a lot of blood. The easiest part of his job was getting down there and taking care of the sick soldiers.

Mr. Holland did not make the choice to become a medic; that was just where they placed him. He also had an older brother who was sent to fight in Europe.
