Benedict Donald Zylka

Mr. Zylka was born in Steven's Point, WI, April 11th 1918 to Michael and Mamie Zylka.
Benedict (Bennie) was raised in Duluth's west side. He enlisted in the Army on January 16th 1942. He rose to rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged after the war on December 27th 1945. A year later he re-enlisted on August 19th 1946 and served during the Korean War.
He returned back to Duluth and married Elizabeth Jane Harris in March of 1956 and they raised a family. He worked as a firemen for the AS&W Company and then U.S. Steelworks for 20 years until he retired. He also worked for Pinkerton Security for 10 years.
Benedict also had two brothers who also served their country; Bernard [Bernard Ambrose Zylka | Veterans Memorial Hall (vets-hall.org)] and Stanley Zylka.
Benedict died in Duluth on May 11th 2002 and is buried at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth.
