KORDISH, Augustine George
Augustine George Kordish was born on August 19th 1918 to John & Mary [Samsa] Kordrich in Chisholm, Minnesota. Before the war he married Harriet Ann [Pickera] in 1940.
Mr. Kordish was inducted into the Army in July 20th 1940 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. His home of entry was listed as Pengilly, Minnesota.
He served as a foreman with Headquarters and Service Company of the 1778th Engineer Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater and in Korea. He rose to the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT).
SGT Kordish earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- one overseas service bar.
SGT Kordish was honorably discharged on April 27th 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and they started a family..
Mr. Kordish died on July 24th 1982 at the age of 63 years. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minnesota.
