August William Gachnik was born on July 1st 1922 to Anton & Julia [Tisol] Gachnik in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Mr. Gachnik was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 28th 1942 during WWII.
He served as a parachutist and messenger in the Infantry. Gachnik was accidentally injured April. 5th 1944, in Nottingham, England. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Gachnik was awarded the European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal.
He was honorably discharged January 13th 1945 at Percy Jones Army General and Convalescent Hospital, Camp Custer, Michigan.
Mr. Gachnik died on March 17th 1981 in the Twin Cities. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
