Arthur L. Walters was inducted into the U.S. Army August 6, 1942 and discharged October 13, 1945.
He served in the 40th Engineer Combat Regiment, which was for a time, Combat Amphibious Engineers. He became a T-3 Sergeant, clerk typist in the Second Battalion Headquarters at the time of his discharge, but during combat served in the North Africa Campaign and the invasion of Sicily in 1943, invasion of South France in 1944, and crossed into Germany before the end of the war in 1945.
Mr. Walters received the Presidential Unit Citation, French Croix de Guerre 7 Star Regiment, Two Bronze Arrowheads for their 567 days in combat.
He was son of Harvey and Belva Walters of Side Lake, Minnesota. After the war, his Battalion became the 40th Combat Engineer Nation Association of the U.S. Army. He also had some poems and thoughts published in the "Stars and Stripes" paper during his combat time.
