Mr. Berknes inducted into the Army on June 15, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Biwabik, Minnesota.

He served as a Corporal with the Army Transportation Corps of the 714th Railway Operating Battalion in the Pacific Theater.

He received the following: Meritorious Unit Commendation, American Campaign Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal.

Mr. Berknes was was honorably discharged on October 30, 1945, at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
