TANEM, Arne Edwin

Arne Edwin Tanem was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Beltrami County, Minnesota. He's the son of Julius and Karen (Bronstad) Tanem.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Martinson on August  3rd, 1941 in Halma, Minnesota.

Mr.. Tanem inducted into the Army on October 6, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Grygla, Minnesota.

Mr. Tanem served as a Technician Fifth Grade and truck driver with Headquarters Company of the 747th Tank Battalion in Northern France, Normandy, and Rhineland.

He was awarded the following:

  • Good Conduct Medal;
  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars;
  • World War II Victory Medal;
  • two overseas service bars,  -and-
  • a Bronze Arrowhead.

 

Mr. Tanem wa honorably discharged June 24, 1945, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served our country iduring World War II, he recently received an award from the French government honoring him for his part in liberating Normandy.
