PINGATORE, Angelo
Angelo Pingatore was born on April 23rd 1913 to Frank & Maria [Tallerico] Pingatore in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. The family moved to Hibbing, Minnesota. He married Wilhelmina Nellie “Wilma” [Smelver] in 1941 and they started a family.
Mr. Pingatore was inducted into the U.S. Army on September 12th 1942, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing.
He served with Battery D of the 400th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in Sicily and Naples-Foggia, Italy, and Rhineland. He rose to the rank of as a Private First Class (PFC). He was later transferred to the Military Police and was assigned to guard German prisoners of war.
PFC Pingatore earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars & bronze arrowhead,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- four Overseass Service bars.
He was honorably discharged on October 26th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
Mr. Pingatore died on March 13th 1991 at 77 years of age in Minneapolis. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
